LHA allows families to make their own curriculum decisions based on their personal choice and family. At school, teachers will work through home curriculum lessons and independent work as needed.
We require you to bring ELA and Math curriculums of your choice, plus a handwriting book for K-5 students. You may purchase other subjects based on your child's needs or wants.
6-12th students will bring all curriculum you have chosen for them to complete at LHA; ELA, math, science, social studies, etc.
Teachers use science and history units purchased from The Good & The Beautiful.
Teachers also choose books, activities, and crafts related to the topics being taught.
K-8th grade uses Heggerty Phonics to supplement ELA instruction.
K-8th also uses Evan Moor supplemental workbooks, varying per class. Examples include geography, grammar, spelling, critical thinking, and more.
9-12th uses a Life Skills curriculum.
Art Zone comes once a week for an hour to each class. We often invite guest speakers to visit our school and talk to the students, plus create time for other subjects including music and physical education.
Students will attend LHA on Tuesday and Thursdays (plus Wednesdays if enrolled in 3 days). On Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays, families will complete their personal curriculum work at home. Teachers do not send home lessons or homework for families to complete. Occasionally, projects or activities will be assigned that may need at home work time along with at school work time.
Teachers will log some hours including science, history, art, and guest speakers. These will be recorded at school and sent home in student take home folders.
Overall, families are expected to track their own hours. We send out a daily schedule detailing the time and subjects being taught to help you track hours. Please reach out to your child's teacher for more specific information.
Every month, we will have at least one Family Friday event! These include field trips to different places in the community. Miss Kelsey will schedule these throughout the year and add them to the school calendar. Look for these events when the calendar is posted on Facebook each month!
These are family events, so please do not drop your children off and leave. Families are required to stay while their children are present.
